Premier's reading challenge

Warren Central School students have the opportunity to participate in this fantastic scheme devised to promote reading to NSW students in Kindergarten to Year 9. Our school has been participating in this program since 2007.   Students who have completed the challenge four years in a row receive the honour of a special Gold Certificate.

We ask that all parents and caregivers encourage students to make reading and borrowing from the library a regular occurrence.

Rules of the Challenge

There are specially selected book lists from which the children have to read. Children in Years 3-9 have to read 20 books of which 15 must be from their list. Five books may be personal choice.

Children in K-2 are able to experience books which means that they may be read to. They need to experience 30 books of which 25 must be from the list.

All children in year K-6 will have the opportunity participate in the challenge at school but we would encourage them to read at home as well. We encourage secondary students to complete the challenge independently. They need to complete a reading log which details the books they have read which then needs to be entered online. Students are able to do this themselves or they can hand their logs to our librarian, Mrs Whittaker, when complete.  If they choose to do this method then students are encouraged to have one log at home as well as one at school and then staple these together when complete.

Keeping an Online Log of Books Read

Students are able to record the books they have through the PRC website using this link.  They simply use their DET user details (the details they use on our school computers) to log in.

Closing date for students have entered in their books

If students are not able to make their own entries then they must have their paper log to the librarian.

Thank you to our P&C

Our school is lucky enough to have literally thousands of books from the official PRC lists. This is largely due to the ongoing support from the P&C which has enabled us to purchase many books over the years; keeping our school collection current.
